Welcome to Radek's Bicyclist Page
First, a few post-crash pictures. It's a jungle out there.
Y'all
be carefull out there but make sure to have fun. Click on the small

I started cycling in 1985 as a means of transportation. I was
getting
ready to start my senior year in college, and working as a summer
intern
at a Silicon Valley company. The 10 mile commute seemed ideal for a
bicycle.
My first bike was a clunker; a Sears FreeSpirit, but I logged about
2000 miles on it before it just plain gave up. It was on this bike that
I overcame my first big challenge; riding from my home in
Sunnyvale
to Santa Cruz and back, a total of 100 miles and 5000' of climbing.
This
was in 1987 and I haven't looked back since.
In 1987 I bought my first real bike, a Univega Alpina Pro,
and
put on about 10,000 miles and numerous metric centuries before finally
selling it. In 1988 I bought my first racing bike, an
aqua-and-silver
Univega Vivatech.
My current collection consists of
-
1985 Sears Free-Spirit [cheap bike; finally just gave
up
the ghost and fell apart in 1988]
-
1986 Univega Alpina Pro mountain bike [sold in 1991]
-
1987 Univega Vivatech racing bike [destroyed in crash in 2000]
-
1990 Ryan Vanguard recumbent [sold in 1998]
-
1990 Trek 6000 mountain bike [stolen in 1992]
-
1992 PURPLE BridgeStone XO-2 [broke frame in
1996; cannibalized for parts]
- 1996 Rivendell All-rounder; rebuilt from parts from BridgeStone
XO-2.
- 1986 Specialized
Allez; rebuilt from parts from Univega Vivatech. [given to friend getting into cycling]
- 1996 REI/Novara
Pro-Ultimate. [cannibalized
for parts to build on top of a Nashbar hybrid frame]
- 2005 Nashbar 16" hybrid, rebuilt from parts from REI/Novara Pro
Ultimate
I enjoy tooling around
in the Santa Cruz mountains and the hills
around
Milpitas and Fremont. If you'd like to join me, send me email.
I'm now a lazy slob who doesn't ride much.
The following are some of the highlights of my touring history.
All these tours were done unassisted -- assisted tours are for wimps.
